Beneath the Surface

If you walk down a street,

Just any street will do,

The houses all lined up

Will look the exact same from the outside

With hardly any differences

But if you knock on the individual doors

And walk inside those similar houses

You will find different lives

Different people

Different stories

All lined up in those houses

And even if you just think about that

Without really stepping inside,

Remember that that’s how people are, too

Similar faces

Similar clothes

Similar styles

Most things, really,

But no matter how similar we may all

Appear to be

We all have our own stories

Our own secrets

Our own skeletons

That lie just beneath the surface
